چکیده

purpose: to report the results of photorefractive keratectomy (prk) with mitomycin-c (mmc) to correct myopia and astigmatism in patients who had previously undergone penetrating keratoplasty (pkp). methods: thirty-eight eyes of 32 patients underwent prk with mmc to correct astigmatism and myopia following pkp. result: mean spherical equivalent (se) was -5.2±4.7 d (diopter) and mean astigmatism was -2.4±3 d pre-operatively which reached -3.1±3.1 d and -1.2±2.8 d 3 months after the operation respectively. the cornea was clear in 55.3%, had trace haze in 21.1%, moderate haze in 15.8% and severe haze in 7.9% of cases. conclusion: prk with mmc after pkp is a relatively safe and effective procedure. it reduces both the spherical error and the cylindrical component of the ametropia. corneal haze is the major complication.

Photorefractive keratectomy for myopia and photoastigmatic keratectomy for astigmatism.

BACKGROUND We conducted a clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and photoastigmatic refractive keratectomy (PARK) using the Nidek EC-5000 excimer laser. METHODS A total of 67 eyes from 47 patients whose average age was 35 years were enrolled in the study. The mean spherical equivalent of the manifest refraction before surgery was...

LASIK for post penetrating keratoplasty astigmatism and myopia.

AIMS To report the results of a series of patients who were treated with LASIK to correct post penetrating keratoplasty ametropia. METHODS 26 eyes of 24 patients underwent LASIK to correct astigmatism and myopia after corneal transplantation; 14 eyes also received arcuate cuts in the stromal bed at the time of surgery. The mean preoperative spherical equivalent was -5.20D and the mean preoper...

Management of Post-Penetrating Keratoplasty Astigmatism

Penetrating keratoplasty (PK) has emerged as a relatively safe means of restoring vision in corneal opacities and irregularities. Astigmatism is the most common cause of suboptimal vision after corneal transplantation despite a clear corneal graft.1,2 Based on several studies,3615%–31% of patients undergoing PK may develop postoperative astigmatism greater than 5 diopters (D). The astigmatism c...

Long-term results of photorefractive keratectomy for myopia and myopic astigmatism.

PURPOSE To assess the long-term refractive outcomes of photorefractive keratectomy in myopia and myopic astigmatism. METHODS A retrospective study of 120 photorefractive keratectomy operated eyes with at least four-year follow-up (maximum of 96 months, mean follow-up 55 months). We divided patients into group 1 (G1) spherical equivalent (SE) up to -4.00 diopters (D) and group 2 (G2) SE >-4.00...

Long-term changes of the anterior corneal topography after photorefractive keratectomy for myopia and myopic astigmatism.

PURPOSE To analyze the anterior corneal topography changes after 8 years after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) for the correction of myopia and myopic astigmatism. METHODS Sixty-six eyes (33 patients) underwent PRK using an excimer laser platform. Patients were subdivided into three groups: the low myopia (13 patients; range, -1.25 to -4.40 diopters [D]), the high myopia (13 patients; -4.50...

current approaches for management of post-penetrating keratoplasty astigmatism

in addition to graft clarity, an acceptable refractive error is essential to consider a corneal transplant successful. the most common complication of penetrating keratoplasty (pk) is postkeratoplasty astigmatism which can result in decreased visual acuity, anisometropia, and mono-ocular diplopia. these complications can cause patient dissatisfaction, in spite of a successful transplant. intrao...
